The 2025 global box office rankings have been announced, with the Chinese animated film Nezha: The Demon Child Makes Waves (referred to as 'Nezha 2') taking the annual crown with an astonishing $2 billion (approximately RM8.17 billion). The runner-up is Zootopia 2, which was just released on November 26. In only 20 days, it has already surpassed $1.13 billion (about RM4.62 billion) globally, showcasing phenomenal momentum; in third place is the live-action Lilo & Stitch, accumulating a box office of $1.03 billion (around RM4.21 billion).
Ranking fourth is MINECRAFT: The Movie (A Minecraft Movie), with a global box office of $950 million (about RM3.88 billion); the fifth spot goes to Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson, closely following with $860 million (roughly RM3.51 billion). The theatrical version of Demon Slayer: The Infinity Castle Chapter Part 1 – Akaza Strikes Again, which sparked a ticket-buying frenzy, also performed brilliantly in global markets, amassing $780 million (around RM3.19 billion) and currently residing at sixth place.
As for positions seven through ten, they are, in order: How to Train Your Dragon, F1 Movie, Superman, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The rankings show that although megastars like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise continued to deliver impressive box office results this year, the appeal of animated films has now comprehensively outpaced the draw of star power. Especially with animated works that can capture the hearts of both adults and children, their box office strength is not to be underestimated.
