Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid arrived in Singapore on Saturday (9th) for a two-day working visit, and will represent the Malaysian government at the 2025 Singapore National Day celebration held this afternoon.
Upon arrival at the airport, he was welcomed by Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan and Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon.
He posted on Facebook that this visit is highly significant because this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Singapore.
"I believe this visit will further strengthen the long-term friendship between our two countries, and open up more opportunities for cooperation, benefiting both peoples and nations."
During the visit, Ahmad Zahid will pay a courtesy call on Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and hold talks with Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong.
The talks will focus on bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern, as well as strengthening the existing relationship between the two countries.
In 2024, Singapore will be Malaysia's second largest trading partner globally, and its largest trading partner among ASEAN member countries, with total trade volume amounting to RM396.22 billion (USD 86.69 billion).
In the first three months of this year, Malaysia-Singapore bilateral trade grew by 12.2%, reaching RM97.93 billion (USD 22 billion).
