TASEK GELUGOR, May 8 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has allocated RM500,000 for the development and wellbeing of Kampung Guar Petai under the MADANI Adopted Village (KAM) initiative.
In addition, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Padang Menora received RM100,000 under the MADANI Adopted School programme to support improvements to the school’s facilities and educational development.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the KAM initiative was not merely symbolic, but reflected the government’s whole-of-government approach involving ministries and agencies working collectively for the benefit of the people.
“When all agencies work together, the people benefit more quickly. For Kampung Guar Petai, I understand the main focus is on community development and strengthening the agricultural sector.
“This is fitting as the village has a strong agro-community background, and this is where the foundation of the country’s food security begins. KPKM does not view rural communities as being left behind, but as the backbone of national food security,” he said at the launch of the programmes at the Kampung Guar Petai MPKK Hall here today.
Among the projects implemented in Kampung Guar Petai were the resurfacing and upgrading of about one kilometre of village roads, repairs to dilapidated homes, widening and deepening of existing drains, and tree-trimming works.
Mohamad said mosque beautification works were also carried out, including repainting, resurfacing of parking areas, installation of lighting and signboards, as well as six solar-powered light poles.
At SK Padang Menora, the allocation covered upgrades to office and teachers’ room facilities, including the supply of five air-conditioning units, a desktop computer and a printer.
Other improvements included repairs to clogged toilets, installation of 16 ceiling fans and four hall ventilation units, replacement of seven toilet doors, as well as solid wood doors for six classrooms, the Music Room and the J-Qaf Room.
The school also received a smart board for its Digital Studio, additional equipment, 20 smart televisions for classrooms, and an LED display complete with a new school signboard.
To strengthen youth participation in modern agriculture, Mohamad said KPKM had also allocated an additional RM100,000 for the implementation of the Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme for students.
He said the MADANI government aimed to ensure development was not concentrated solely in urban areas, but also benefited rural communities through improved facilities and economic opportunities.
He added that the agriculture sector is becoming increasingly modern and technology-driven, offering strong potential for young people to pursue it as a future career.
Earlier, the event featured a community feast and the Agro MADANI Sale (JAM), organised in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) and Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM).
The sale offered discounts of up to 30 per cent on essential goods and involved local entrepreneurs to help residents obtain necessities at reasonable prices.
Agrobank also contributed RM20,000 in zakat assistance to those in need, while the Department of Agriculture distributed 500 seedlings to Kampung Guar Petai residents to encourage household farming and food crop cultivation.
The MADANI Adopted Village and Adopted School initiatives are aimed at strengthening inclusive community development and improving public wellbeing through cooperation between the government, agencies and local communities.
