(Kuala Lumpur, 29th) The late former Finance Minister Tun Daim, along with his family and agents, is alleged to possess at least RM4.5 billion in undisclosed assets not only in the United Kingdom, but also in five other countries. These assets are expected to be frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for investigation.
According to sources cited by Berita Harian, MACC’s investigation revealed that these assets are believed to be linked to business interests and were not declared to the authorities.
“It is understood that these high-value assets related to business interests will be frozen.”
The assets are located in the United States, Singapore, Japan, Italy, and Jersey Island in the English Channel.
The source stated that among the assets found in the US are apartments, commercial buildings, and bank accounts.
“In Japan, the undeclared assets include hotels, while in Italy there is a shopping centre.”
“Bank accounts were found in Singapore and Jersey Island.”
The source said these assets were found to be undeclared during the investigation by authorities in 2023. Therefore, the authorities will soon apply for injunctions and restraining orders with the assistance of national law enforcement agencies.
Datuk Mohamad Zamri, Senior Director of MACC’s Special Operations Division, confirmed the matter and said they would apply to the court for the next course of action.
The source further stated that, in addition to the five countries above, the authorities will take similar action against other countries where “collected” related assets are located.
The source said that the injunctions are to ensure that the relevant parties do not take any further action on the said assets while detailed investigations are ongoing.
