Unified Public Service MyGOV App to Launch Soon: Handling Affairs Made Easier and More Efficient

(Kuala Lumpur, 29th) With the Malaysian government's unified public service platform MyGOV Malaysia set to officially launch next month, scholars predict this will fundamentally change the way people communicate with government agencies, making it much easier, more convenient, and efficient to handle various matters.
MyGOV Malaysia is a government-integrated mobile application that provides mobile services to meet the needs of the public, civil servants, and businesses.
Through this application, citizens can inquire about, apply for, and receive notifications for government agency services, including fine checks, welfare, and retirement services.
Associate Professor Siti Sawah, Senior lecturer of Computer Science at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, Universiti Teknologi MARA (Seremban Campus), told Bernama that launching this application is the right move to support the government's digital transformation towards more efficient services.
“This improves people’s accessibility, as they can access information and services without restrictions of time and place.”
“The rollout of this application will facilitate transactions between the public and the government, eliminating the need to go to physical counters and thereby reducing bureaucratic red tape.”
She said it is necessary to improve communication with users and enhance user understanding of MyGOV Malaysia in order to fully capitalize on the benefits of this application.
Regarding users’ concerns about data security and privacy within the app, she believes the government must provide clear information to the public on how their data is collected, stored, and protected.
“Publicly state the privacy policy on the official website in an easy-to-understand manner. The success of MyGov's implementation requires continuous communication, training, technical support, and an inclusive culture of technological transformation.”
On the other hand, Associate Professor Yasir, a lecturer in Mechatronics Engineering at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), said the rollout of the MyGov Malaysia application will simplify procedures and save time for all users when communicating with various government departments and agencies.
“With easy 24-hour online access, the launch of this app will help Malaysia’s services sector transform in a better direction compared to traditional manual methods.”
Yasir urged the government to continue strengthening cybersecurity and to immediately amend the Personal Data Protection Act to include government entities themselves.
“In terms of data security, although the app is said not to directly store users’ personal data, there are still risks, such as backend system leaks or targeted cyber-attacks.”
Earlier, when Digital Minister Gobind Singh announced the imminent launch of MyGOV Malaysia, he stated it is part of the Malaysian Government Technology (GovTech) plan, aimed at making it easier for citizens to access services from various government agencies.
This mobile application mainly covers 7 services: travel (such as passport applications); registration (birth and citizenship); driving (road tax and driver’s license); healthcare (appointments and medical records); fine services (inquiry and payment); housing (land tax and assessment tax); and the Caring Aid (STR).
