(Kuching, 4th) Sarawak is set to welcome its first-ever 'Sarawak Ombudsman Day 2025' this Wednesday (November 5), marking a new chapter for the state in the field of integrity and good governance.
This event will be officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and held at Riverside Majestic Hotel, Kuching Waterfront.

This celebration is the first of its kind since the enactment of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, signifying Sarawak as the first state in Malaysia to establish a formal ombudsman institution.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman Affairs), Datuk Juanda Jaya, stated that this year's celebration theme is 'Planting the Seed of Good Governance', symbolizing the government's commitment to nurturing a culture of transparency, accountability, and integrity at all levels of the administrative system.
He said: "This event will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation, inviting ombudsman leaders from multiple countries to discuss how to strengthen public governance together." He made this statement at a press conference yesterday (November 3, Monday).

He added that this theme aligns with the objectives of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which aims to build a progressive and integrity-based Sarawak by 2030.
Invited guests include the Chief Ombudsman of Indonesia, Muhammad Najib; the Deputy Ombudsman of Thailand; a representative from the Philippine Ombudsman; the Philippines' representative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB); and members of the Sarawak Ombudsman.
Juanda pointed out that the arrival of international experts would help Sarawak gain valuable experience and understand how other countries handle public complaints and uphold administrative integrity.
He also emphasized that 'Sarawak Ombudsman Day 2025' aims to raise public awareness about the ombudsman's duties, including accepting, investigating, and resolving complaints about maladministration involving state government agencies.

Several thematic sessions and forums will be held during the event, including a global practices in ombudsman seminar, a keynote on 'Public Complaint Management' delivered by Indonesia's Professor Dr. Yohannes Wijantoro, and discussions based on this year's theme.
Juanda said: "Sarawak Ombudsman Day 2025 is one of the state government's key initiatives to ensure that the ombudsman institution truly benefits the people, and to strengthen Sarawak's reputation as a state of high integrity."
This celebration is expected to become an important annual event for Sarawak's integrity-building efforts, further advancing the state government's vision of achieving a transparent, prosperous, and well-governed Sarawak by 2030.
