Chiew Choon Man Affirms Storytelling Contest, Encourages Students to Grow with Confidence in Self-Expression

(Miri, 4th) Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man pointed out that storytelling is not only a form of talent expression, but also an important platform for cultivating children's communication skills, self-confidence, and creativity.

He made these remarks as the guest of honor at the opening of the "2025 SSPN Savings Scheme Storytelling Competition" recently held at the Curtin University Malaysia auditorium in Miri.

The competition, organized by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) Miri, Sarawak branch, aims to promote the SSPN education savings concept through storytelling activities while inspiring children's multifaceted development potential.

Chiew Choon Man expressed his gratitude to the organizers for holding such a meaningful event. He pointed out that this is not only a good opportunity to discover students' potential in public speaking, but also helps cultivate their ability to express ideas, foster critical thinking, and build self-confidence. He emphasized that in today's information-rich and highly competitive society, good communication skills have become one of the indispensable skills in life and the workplace.

He stated that storytelling is not only a form of entertainment, but also a tool rich in educational value. It can impart values as well as train logical thinking and language skills. Through such competitions, children not only learn to speak, but also learn how to express themselves meaningfully.

Chiew also encouraged students to bravely take on challenges and not fear failure. "Every story you tell today may become an inspiration for others; every step you take is a firm stride towards your future as leaders."

He also mentioned that the SSPN education savings scheme is an important tool to help parents plan their children's educational future. He praised PTPTN for promoting savings and educational planning awareness to society through the competition, which has not only educational value but also helps inspire children's sense of responsibility and vision.

Chiew also expressed his gratitude to all participating students, parents, teachers, and the PTPTN team working silently behind the scenes, and congratulated all the winners. "To those who did not win awards, I want to say, your courage in stepping onto the stage already makes you a winner."

He emphasized at the end, "Serving the nation is for the future of the next generation." With these passionate words, he concluded his speech.
