(Kuching, 27th) Special Assistant to Chong Chieng Jen, Jiang Fengnian, recently inspected several areas along Fifth Mile Batu Kawa Road, where he found situations that deeply concerned him.

He said that due to long-term neglect and years of disrepair, the road conditions here have worsened.

“Clearly, the roads here have not been resurfaced for a long time, resulting in severe uneven surfaces filled with numerous potholes of various sizes, causing slow traffic. This not only inconveniences residents but may also pose safety risks to residents and drivers.”

Jiang Fengnian pointed out that the local residents deserve to have safe and well-maintained road infrastructure, which is their right and expectation.

“Batu Kawa Road is the main thoroughfare for local residents. When roads are not properly maintained, it not only affects people's daily commuting but also increases vehicle maintenance costs due to continuous driving on damaged roads.”

Therefore, he urged the Padawan Municipal Council to take immediate action to repair and resurface the Batu Kawa Road, particularly around Lane 2, Lane 7, and Batu Kawa Park.

He said that the current road conditions are extremely poor, which is unacceptable, and the Padawan Municipal Council must prioritize the travel needs of the residents here.

“Only by resurfacing these roads can the Padawan Municipal Council provide residents with safe and unobstructed roads, fulfilling their responsibility to provide good infrastructure for the residents.”

This should also serve as a reminder to the council not to wait for problems to arise before repairing roads, but to plan ahead and proactively maintain them to ensure the safety and quality of life for residents.

Now is the time to develop a long-term road maintenance plan so that Batu Kawa Road and nearby residents can enjoy safe, smooth, and easily accessible roads, rather than relying on temporary patch-ups.
