(Kuching, 27th) The youth play an important role in the fight against corruption, especially given the advantages of unrestricted technology and media today.
Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Juanda Jaya, emphasized that youth are vital assets in eradicating the culture of corruption from its roots.
"Today's unlimited media offers a great opportunity to quickly and widely spread awareness and highlight issues of corruption. Tech-savvy young people can use modern technology to combat corruption and become drivers of change."
He stated this while attending an event at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in conjunction with the 2024 Sarawak Regional International Anti-Corruption Day (HARA).
In his speech, he also mentioned that Venezuela is facing bankruptcy due to corruption and abuse of power.
He said that the wealth that should have been shared with the people has not benefited them due to leakage and corruption.
Therefore, the Sarawak government is committed to a full-scale anti-corruption approach starting at the grassroots level.
"Anti-corruption educational initiatives and programs are being actively carried out to ensure the next generation understands the negative impacts of corruption on society and the economy."
The 2024 Sarawak Regional International Anti-Corruption Day is being held to raise public awareness of the dangers of corruption, focusing mainly on youth participation in shaping a culture of integrity and transparency at both the Sarawak and national levels.
