(Kuching, 22nd) Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif, stated that vendors at the Serikei and Tanjung Manis Ramadan bazaars must give top priority to food safety, hygiene, and proper waste management to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for visitors.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), he pointed out that maintaining high standards is crucial because during Ramadan, hundreds of vendors operate daily, serving large crowds during peak hours.
“The food sold at the bazaars must be fresh, hygienic, and safe for consumption, while the stalls and their surroundings should be kept clean and orderly to safeguard public health,” he said.
According to his Facebook post, this year’s Serikei bazaar features 186 stalls, while Tanjung Manis has 27 stalls.
As the councilor for Kuala Rajang, Len Talif described the bazaars as important platforms for small vendors to earn income during Ramadan, as well as creating a festive atmosphere in both areas.
He also called on the public to support local vendors, saying that spending at the bazaars not only helps strengthen the local economy but can also enhance the livelihoods of community residents.
