China has officially announced that Guo Wenqing, former Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of China Minmetals Corporation, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. He has voluntarily turned himself in and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Supervisory Commission released this news on their website on Friday (July 31).
Public information shows that Guo Wenqing, 61, is a native of Xinglong in Hebei Province. Early in his career, he worked in Hebei for a long time and was once a teacher in Xinglong County. He later served as secretary in the General Office of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee, deputy director and then director and party secretary of the Provincial Expressway Administration Bureau, and director of the Provincial Port and Shipping Administration Bureau.
In 2008, Guo Wenqing made another 'cross-industry' move, taking up a position at China Metallurgical Group Corporation. From April 2009, he also held a position at MCC Group. In September 2013, Guo Wenqing became Chairman of China Metallurgical Group Corporation, and in August 2014, he took up the posts of Chairman, General Manager, and Deputy Party Secretary of MCC Group. In April 2015, he became Chairman and Party Secretary of MCC Group.
In May 2016, Guo Wenqing was transferred to serve as Director, General Manager, and Deputy Party Secretary of China Minmetals Corporation, holding the post until stepping down in May 2024.
