(Kuching, 26th) The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, stated that the soon-to-be-established Sarawak airline "Air Borneo" will require technically skilled pilots, engineers, and ground staff to support its operations.
"We need not only pilots to fly the aircraft but also engineers to maintain the aircraft engines and ground staff to use the most advanced digital technology to ensure seamless airport operations."
He said this also means that in the future, all boarding procedures can be completed with just a click, which is what we refer to as the most advanced technology driven by digitalization and innovation.
He said this while delivering a speech at the 9th graduation ceremony of the Sarawak Center of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) today.
Abang Johari pointed out that Air Borneo is Sarawak's soon-to-be-established state-owned airline, which was renamed after the Sarawak government officially acquired MASwings on February 12 this year.
The idea of Air Borneo stems from Sarawak's long-standing need for better air connectivity and a stronger desire for greater control over the aviation industry.
He stated that the airline will serve as an important link between Sarawak and major destinations in Asia.
"Initially, Air Borneo will operate flights to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Jakarta. Over time, the airline will gradually expand its operations to Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong."
He further elaborated that the expansion of Air Borneo's routes is expected to promote tourism and education, allowing more visitors to experience Sarawak's unique culture, heritage, and natural attractions.
"From an educational perspective, some people visit Niah to study the history of civilization there. In other words, people come here to enrich their knowledge while also strengthening the bonds of friendship between Sarawak and other countries." He emphasized.
