(US, 24th) — US President Trump said on the 23rd that the US-Iran agreement has basically completed negotiations, with the final content and details still under discussion and to be announced soon.
He said the globally important waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, will reopen.
That day, Trump stated on social media that he had spoken by phone in the Oval Office with leaders of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, as well as Pakistan Army Chief Munir, primarily discussing Iran and “all matters related to the memorandum of understanding for peace and reconciliation.”
Trump said the negotiations on the agreement have basically been completed and now await finalization among the US, Iran, and the aforementioned countries. The final contents and details of the agreement are still under discussion and will be announced soon. The agreement includes provisions for opening the Strait of Hormuz.
However, in the early hours of the 24th, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that Trump’s latest social media statement regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz was “incomplete.”
According to Fars News Agency reporters, based on the latest exchanged texts, even if an agreement is reached, the Strait of Hormuz will still be “managed” by Iran. In addition, although Iran has agreed to allow the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to return to pre-war levels, this does not mean the strait will return to a state of “free passage” as before the war.
The report emphasizes that the management of the Strait of Hormuz, route planning, timing and manner of ship passage, and permit rights will all remain fully under Iranian control. Therefore, Trump’s statement is incomplete and does not reflect the facts.
