45.7 Million Ringgit Pipe Replacement and Upgrading to Solve Serian District Water Supply Issues

(Serian, 26th) The long-standing water supply issues troubling Serian residents will be gradually resolved through a phased project to replace and upgrade old water pipes. The engineering works will span a total of 73.2 kilometers and cost a total of 45.7 million ringgit.

Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah stated that this large-scale project is expected to commence at the end of 2026 or early 2027, and is projected to be fully completed by 2029.

She pointed out that this project is part of the 84.37 million ringgit Samarahan District Water Distribution System Upgrading Plan, which involves a total pipe network of 148.3 kilometers.

She said: "We understand that the public feels the project timeline is rather long. Therefore, the government is also taking short-term measures, including the construction of an elevated water tank in Kampung Hijrah, which is expected to be completed in August 2027 to assist affected areas."

She made these remarks while delivering a speech yesterday at Serian Goodwill Hall during the Serian District 1448/2026 Prophet Muhammad's Birthday Celebration.

Rodiyah said she hopes that the above two measures can provide a more comprehensive solution to Serian's water supply issues, in line with local development needs and a continuously growing population.

She noted that replacing old pipes is one of the important measures to enhance the efficiency of the water supply distribution system and will also help ensure more stable water supply for residents.

Therefore, she urged local residents to cooperate with contractors during the construction period, especially by not blocking construction routes and not entering designated construction areas without permission.

On another note, Rodiyah said that the participation of non-Muslim leaders and the public in the Prophet Muhammad Birthday Celebration also reflects the spirit of unity and mutual respect upheld by Sarawak’s multiracial and multi-religious society.

She said that religious and ethnic differences should not be an obstacle for all walks of life to interact, share visions, and support development agendas, which will ultimately benefit all people.

Meanwhile, the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday Celebration also featured various competitions to liven up the atmosphere, with participants including government departments and agencies, schools, mosques, prayer rooms, villages, clubs, and local organizations.

A total of 22 teams participated in the parade competition, while another 15 groups joined the banner competition.
