(Miri, 26th) — A four-wheel-drive vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree near the hilltop area of Miri Public Park along the Bintulu-Miri Road in the early hours today, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man and injuries to three women.
The Miri Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 3am. Firefighters departed from their base and arrived at the scene five minutes later.
According to the department, there were four people in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Before rescue personnel arrived, three female passengers had already been rescued from the vehicle, while the male driver was trapped inside the seriously damaged car.
Firefighters immediately used rescue equipment to begin extrication operations and freed the trapped driver.
However, the man was later pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health medical personnel. His body was subsequently handed over to the police.
All three female passengers were injured, with one sustaining more serious injuries while the other two suffered minor wounds. They received preliminary treatment at the scene from medical staff before being sent to the hospital for further care.
The rescue operation was led by PBKI Abdul Rahman Rosliee, with six firefighters and one fire engine from the Miri Fire and Rescue Department dispatched to the scene.
The operation was brought under control at 3:20am and ended at 3:53am after a safety inspection of the scene was completed.
