(MIRI, 12th) Miri Police District Chief Assistant Commissioner Alexson Naga said that the Miri Police Commercial Investigation Unit arrested two local men involved in recruiting civilians to become mule accounts and acquiring ATM cards.

He stated that on the afternoon of the 8th of this month, the unit arrested the men, aged 34 and 46, on Pujut Miri Road, and seized a vehicle, seven mobile phones, 44 ATM cards from various banks, and a notebook recording bank numbers, with a total value exceeding RM40,000.

They have been brought to court to apply for a three-day remand for investigation and will be charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of at least one year imprisonment, whipping, and fines if convicted.

Additionally, he mentioned that on the afternoon of the 10th of this month at 3 PM, the police arrested nine men and women impersonating police and National Scam Response Center (NSRC) officials at a house on Beach Road.

Evidence worth over RM30,000 was seized in the case, including 20 mobile phones, two computers, documents detailing their fraudulent methods, and personal documents.

It is reported that the suspects were found through Facebook for a job as a telecommunicator, with a monthly salary of RM2,000. The group also provided tickets to the scam locations, allowing them to follow a script to defraud.

All suspects have been brought to court to apply for a four-day remand for investigation. Apart from being charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, they are also charged with violating Section 120b of the Penal Code.

The police commercial investigation unit will continue to investigate accomplices in the case and hopes the public can provide information through the hotlines 0164260952 or 0148618690.

The police urge the public to be cautious and not hand over ATM cards for others to use.
