Multiple regions in Guangxi, China have recently experienced severe flooding, and the authorities have again allocated 80 million yuan (approximately 48 million ringgit) in disaster relief funds. As of now, the disaster has claimed 39 lives, with 9 others missing.
According to Xinhua News Agency, due to continued heavy rainfall, the disaster situation in Guangxi has further escalated. On top of an earlier disbursement of 110 million yuan on the 6th, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management on the 10th urgently allocated another 80 million yuan from the central government’s natural disaster relief fund. This is to support Guangxi in key efforts such as evacuating and resettling disaster-affected people, providing transitional living assistance, repairing damaged and destroyed housing, and ensuring the basic needs of disaster victims are met.
Affected by Typhoon MESA and widespread, sustained heavy rains, the Liulan Reservoir in Hengzhou, Nanning, Guangxi breached on the morning of the 6th, triggering flooding disasters. According to a recent announcement from the Nanning authorities, including the disastrous breach in Liulan Reservoir, as of 11 a.m. on the 9th, Guangxi has reported 39 fatalities and 9 people missing.
