After Pakatan Harapan’s consecutive defeats in two state elections, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil solemnly denied speculation that the Unity Government would dissolve and hold a general election soon. He reaffirmed that all ruling parties support Datuk Seri Anwar to remain as Prime Minister until the end of the parliamentary term!
Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the Unity Government, was asked by the media after attending the Campus Internet event in Kuala Lumpur today whether the ruling coalition intends to call an early election. He firmly replied: “No!”
He emphasized: “From what we understand, the next general election will be held by the end of next year at the latest (that is, before the current parliamentary term ends).”
“We actively listen to the views of all parties in the Unity Government, and at present all ruling parties in the government unanimously support Anwar as Prime Minister until the end of his term.”
On another note, regarding Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul revealing yesterday (7th) that PKR’s Subang Jaya MP Wong Chen had expressed his intention to resign, Fahmi, who is also PKR Communications Director, responded that he has not yet received such news.
“Let’s just wait for the official announcement from the Speaker. Any changes in the positions of Members of Parliament require a formal announcement from the Speaker.”
Wong Chen, seen as an ally of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi’s faction, had his PM constituency grant My Khas access suspended immediately after attending an event marking Rafizi’s takeover of MUDA several months ago, intensifying his rift with PKR. He later repeatedly hinted at leaving the party.
Nurul Resigns as PKR Deputy President
Fahmi: Respect Her Decision
Fahmi: Respect Her Decision
Regarding PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah’s insistence on resigning, party communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil stated that PKR will give Nurul time to handle her personal affairs, and the most important thing is her unwavering commitment to the party’s struggle.
Asked by the media whether Nurul’s resignation would impact PKR, Fahmi emphasized that party vice chairman Datuk Seri Saifuddin has been appointed acting deputy president, so party operations will not be affected.
“Although the party’s central committee unanimously tried to retain Nurul, she has asked for time to complete her further studies. We respect her decision and will give her all the time she needs.”
“The most important thing is that Nurul is still a PKR member and continues to support the party’s cause with unwavering dedication.”
Nurul recently dropped a bombshell by resigning as PKR deputy president after serving just over one year, stressing that it was a decision made after much consideration, and indicating that her future path may not be limited to politics.
