Cheng Li-wen, chairwoman of Taiwan's opposition Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), stated that she hopes the blue camp will unite and strive for victory in the local elections at the end of the year, then advance toward the goal of returning to governance in 2028.
According to a press release posted on the KMT’s official website, Cheng Li-wen remarked at the Central Review Committee meeting on the 27th that at the Party Congress on the morning of the 25th, up to 200,000 people took to the streets that night. There were not only legislative caucus members fighting in the parliament every day, but also all eleven county and city mayors standing onstage at Ketagalan Boulevard, leading the crowd to roar out in anger. Each one was more combative than the next, so the KMT has transformed from a flock of sheep into a pride of lions.
"Letting out a lion's roar, letting out an angry roar—this roar represents the voice of the people, the voice of justice, the spirit of Taiwan, and the values of Taiwan."
She said that the facts prove the KMT represents Taiwan’s true mainstream values and mainstream public opinion. Now being the largest opposition party, their next goal is to secure a majority on their own.
To this end, Cheng Li-wen stated that the local elections at the end of November are crucial, hoping the KMT can continue its governance in places where it already holds office, achieve breakthroughs in areas long governed by the green camp, and achieve a total turnaround. High hopes have thus been placed on Kaohsiung and Pingtung, with continued expectations for Tainan and Chiayi as well.
The nine-in-one local elections on November 28 will include a total of nine different polls held on the same day: special municipality mayors, special municipality councilors, county (city) mayors, county (city) councilors, township (town, city) mayors, and township (town, city) representatives. The contest for the mayors of the six major cities is especially closely watched: Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung.
