‘Chasing the Wind and Shadows’ Sweeps 19 Million, Crowned as 2025 Malaysia’s Top-Grossing Chinese Film

Starring Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Ka-Fai, the action film 'Chasing the Wind and Shadows' has continued to spark a moviegoing frenzy in Malaysia since its release last August. Both word-of-mouth and box office soared, with cumulative box office officially surpassing RM 19 million, overtaking ‘Crossroads: Break • Hell’ and its RM 18.82 million tally, and powerfully claiming the top spot for Malaysia’s highest-grossing Chinese film of 2025.

To celebrate this new box office milestone and thank partners and media for their ongoing support, distributor Shanghai Pictures held a ‘Chasing the Wind and Shadows’ Malaysia Appreciation and Chinese New Year Celebration Banquet on the 9th, gathering with industry partners on the eve of the Spring Festival in a lively atmosphere.
Guests included Shanghai Pictures' Dr. Vijay Pillai, Dato Rama, Dato Tai Tek Seng, EJJ Films director Dato Wong Soon Foong, GSC Movies director Koh Mei Lee, and GSC Movies manager Hou Soo Cheang, among others.

Dr. Vijay Pillai stated that ‘Chasing the Wind and Shadows’ breaking through RM 19 million in box office was a huge encouragement and comfort for the Shanghai Pictures team. “This is not only a show of support and trust from audiences, but also a demonstration of the solid and close cooperative relationship between the team, partners, and joint distributor GSC Movies.” He noted that this achievement is a milestone, and looks forward to continued cooperation and future success together.

Director and screenwriter Yang Ziyi sent a video message of congratulations, expressing that the dazzling box office performance of ‘Chasing the Wind and Shadows’ would not have been possible without the support of each and every partner and the enthusiastic backing of the audience. On behalf of the creative team, he extended his thanks to all and revealed the team hopes to further extend this story, bringing new works to fans in the future. He also looks forward to personally visiting Malaysia to interact with audiences face to face.

Jackie Chan’s box office appeal remains one of the key factors behind the film’s success. Throughout its run, whether at the cinema or on social media platforms, public discussion about the movie surged, with many fans sharing their experiences of watching it twice or even three times, creating a strong word-of-mouth effect and attracting audiences across different age groups to the theaters. For many fans, “watching a Jackie Chan movie” has long been a cross-generational collective memory; his signature action choreography and entertaining pacing remain a solid draw on the big screen.
