U.S. President Trump has hinted that a breakthrough may be achieved in the Middle East crisis.
On the 28th, he posted on social media: “We truly have the opportunity to achieve something great in the Middle East. For the first time ever, everyone will be working toward a special goal. We will definitely succeed!”
According to The Times of Israel, Trump has presented some Arab leaders with a “21-Point Plan” aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, which includes a potential path towards the future establishment of a Palestinian state. The Trump administration, which previously did not support the 'two-state solution' policy, appears to have shifted its stance.
In addition, The Washington Post reported that the plan's contents include an immediate ceasefire, freezing of front lines, release of all detainees within 48 hours, and a requirement for Hamas to destroy all offensive weapons, among other measures.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will meet with Trump on the 29th.
