(27th - Bandar Seri Begawan) The Department of Primary Resources and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education's "Development and Exploration Plan for the Hotel and Tourism Industry 2025," is actively engaging secondary school students through an ongoing career seminar roadshow.
In May 2025, the Tourism Development Department conducted a series of impactful career seminars at renowned secondary schools such as Katok Secondary School, Awang Semaun Secondary School, Sayyidina Ali Secondary School, Lambak Kiri Secondary School, Berakas Sixth Form Center, and Limau Manis Secondary School.
273 students from tourism, geography, and food and nutrition programs gained valuable insights into the diverse and dynamic career opportunities within the hotel and tourism industry.
These seminars provided students with practical career development guidance and a comprehensive overview of the industry, giving them a clearer roadmap for their career paths in the field.
The program also invited key industry players like the Brunei Hotels Association, Dar El-Ehsan Travel, Royal Brunei Catering Company, and Borneo Twitchers Tours and Travel Sdn Bhd as guest speakers. These industry experts shared their practical experiences and highlighted the essential skills and qualifications needed to succeed in tourism, sightseeing, and culinary arts.
The project aims to assist students in making informed academic and career decisions by providing personalized career guidance that matches their individual skills, qualifications, and interests. It supports students in setting goals, exploring higher education pathways (both locally and internationally), and accessing information on government and private sector scholarships.
Limbang Secondary School teacher Mohamad Abdul Wahafi shared his thoughts: “This is an inspirational seminar that has given our students a clear understanding of the immense opportunities within the tourism industry. I hope these seminars inspire students’ interest and encourage them to see the tourism industry as a viable career path. Extending the seminar duration would help enhance interaction among students. A heartfelt thanks to all guest speakers for their insights. We look forward to hearing from them again."
The Tourism Development Department is committed to expanding its collaboration with educational institutions and industry partners across Brunei to hold more career seminars. These initiatives aim to broaden students' understanding of the diverse career paths within the hotel and tourism industry and strengthen the connection between education and industry. The department also plans to extend these promotional activities to the public, encouraging broader public participation in tourism and the opportunities it presents.
