Keyu Jin, Director of the Institute for Geoeconomics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, said that globalization is undergoing a restructuring, and it is now impossible to block technology and knowledge.
According to the “Caijing ThinkTank” WeChat official account, last Thursday (December 18), Keyu Jin said at the “Caijing Annual Conference 2026: Forecast and Strategy · Annual Dialogue and 2025 Global Wealth Management Forum” that geopolitics and the economy are now deeply integrated, becoming a core factor influencing corporate strategy and national policy. However, globalization has not disappeared due to great power competition and protectionism; instead, it is undergoing restructuring.
Keyu Jin stated that it is now impossible to block technology and knowledge. She said: “In the 19th century, high technology could be locked in a single machine to prevent theft. If someone wanted to steal it, they would have to move the entire device and escape from the UK to the US. Now, this no longer works. Technology cannot be blocked.”
Keyu Jin described that globalization is also forming new connection models. For example, “super connector” economies such as Vietnam and Mexico are playing an important transit role between China and the US, enabling trade and investment to form an indirect yet closely-connected network.

Keyu Jin also said that maintaining openness remains crucial. All knowledge, technology, everything spreads through the exchange of goods, capital, and personnel. Only by staying open can one truly grasp the core hubs.
