(Thailand, 21st) A Thai man has accused a lottery sales platform of suspected fraud, claiming that he held winning lottery tickets worth a total of 400,000 baht (about 52,870 ringgit) but only received 20,000 baht (about 2,562 ringgit) as prize money, sparking controversy.
According to Thai media The Thaiger, 49-year-old Boy from Saraburi province recently filed a complaint with the Foundation Campaigning to Reclaim Social Justice, hoping to recover the prize money he believes he is entitled to.
The report stated that Boy bought nine lottery tickets through the online system of a large local lottery platform on the 10th of this month. Of these, five tickets with the number 349577 won the third prize in the draw on Tuesday (16th).
According to the prize system, each winning ticket is eligible for an 80,000 baht prize, so five tickets should total 400,000 baht.
Boy said that after winning, he contacted the platform to claim his prize but was told he could only receive 20,000 baht, which was subsequently transferred to his bank account.
He refused to accept the arrangement, insisting that he had evidence to prove ownership of the winning tickets, but after attempting to submit his materials, he was blocked by the platform and unable to communicate further.
He expressed disappointment and said that, in future, he would only purchase lottery tickets through the official channels of the Thai Government Lottery Office.
The Foundation’s vice chairman, Raphatsit Phatsirichaisin, stated that they would coordinate with relevant government agencies to determine whether the prize money for the tickets in question had already been claimed by others.
He also said the Foundation would request the relevant authorities to temporarily withhold disbursement of the prize money until the investigation is complete.
Raphatsit revealed that he had reviewed the documents and materials provided by Boy, and preliminarily believed the evidence was clear and merited further investigation.
As of now, authorities have not announced the results of their investigation, and the platform in question has not made a public response regarding the incident.
