Wong Hong Sheng: Public Transport Must Be Taken Seriously to Tackle Global Challenges

(Kuching, 29th) Public transport needs to be given highly serious attention, as it is one of the important measures in responding to global challenges, including supply uncertainties and dependence on oil and natural gas.

Datuk Wong Hong Sheng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council, stated that this issue requires comprehensive solutions, and he believes that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari will be able to find the best way to tackle these challenges.

“He (the Sarawak Premier) also mentioned that all government departments and relevant parties need to give this matter serious consideration. We need to think about how to face all of these challenges, because I believe we still have many options and it’s not too late to take action now.”

“I think this is a lesson we need to learn because when all parties are affected, we hope that one day we can have our own choice and no longer be overly dependent on external supplies.”

Wong Hong Sheng made these remarks when interviewed by reporters last night after attending the Earth Hour event.

He emphasized that Sarawak should learn from the current circumstances, enhance its own capabilities, and avoid excessive reliance on external supplies. Once there is a supply disruption or global uncertainty, over-reliance on external supplies may cause significant impacts.

He added that once there is a supply disruption or unpredictable situation, the public will directly feel the impact. Therefore, Sarawak needs to be prepared for the future and seek more stable and sustainable alternatives.
