(Bangkok, 9th) — The latest ranking of Asia’s most popular travel cities released by digital travel platform Agoda shows that Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has topped the list for the second consecutive year. Tokyo and Seoul took second and third places, followed closely by Bali and Osaka.

This ranking is based on accommodation booking data and reflects the appeal of each city to visitors. Data analysis reveals that many tourists visited the same destination multiple times in the first half of this year, for reasons including experiencing missed activities from their first trip, revisiting beloved attractions, or simply enjoying the familiar travel atmosphere.

Bangkok’s ability to secure its position as an “evergreen destination” can be attributed to its vibrant urban culture, internationally renowned street food, and the unique charm of historical and cultural landmarks such as the Grand Palace and Wat Arun.

To further increase the number of international visitors, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has teamed up with industry partners to launch a variety of promotional measures. Among them, the “Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2025” event, jointly organized with Agoda, began on July 1st and will last until August 15th. This campaign mainly targets tourists from India, China, Malaysia, Laos, and Vietnam, and offers comprehensive discounts on accommodation, shopping, and tourism experiences.

In addition to Bangkok, other Thai cities such as Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Hat Yai have also recorded high rates of return visits, showcasing the diversified tourism resources of the country. To support the ongoing growth of the tourism industry, the Thai tourism authority is actively pushing airport expansion projects and improving public transportation systems in both major and secondary tourist cities to enhance the convenience of visitors’ travel.

According to Akapong, Agoda’s Thailand Country Director, repeat visits by tourists are a key indicator of a destination’s success. Bangkok’s high rate of return demonstrates the city’s unique cultural heritage, culinary culture, and the effective collaboration between the tourism industry and government departments.
