A 44-year-old woman was charged with the alleged murder of an Indonesian woman in Sungai Long, Sepang, Selangor, and was brought before the Sepang Magistrate’s Court on Friday (June 19). As murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court, Magistrate Kailadu adjourned the case to July 21 for further mention.

The 44-year-old accused, Chan Siu Lan (name transliterated), is accused of murdering an Indonesian national at around 2:31 p.m. on June 3 in an apartment unit in Sungai Long, Bangi. She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder).

If convicted under this section, the offender may be sentenced to death or imprisonment for not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, as well as not less than 12 strokes of the cane.

Since murder cases are under the jurisdiction of the High Court, the court did not record whether the accused pleaded guilty, and the magistrate decided to adjourn the case to July 21 to transfer the documents.

The case is prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor V. Luwei, while the accused is represented by lawyer V. Ayashami.
