North Korea Claims South Korean Drone Violated Airspace; Seoul: Not a Model Used by South Korean Military

On the 10th, South Korean Minister of National Defense Shin Won-sik stated regarding the "South Korean drone violating North Korean airspace" incident that this was "absolutely not true," and that the drone shown in the photos released by North Korea is not a model used by the South Korean military. He also said that a joint investigation by the South and the North could be conducted on this matter.

On the 10th, North Korea's official media KCNA reported that South Korea had once again sent a drone into North Korean airspace on the 4th, infringing upon its sovereignty.

Photos published by North Korean state outlets showed drone wreckage, electronic components, and what is claimed to be aerial footage of buildings taken by the drone.

According to the statement, this small fixed-wing drone took off from Ganghwa County, Incheon, South Korea on the 4th, flew over several areas in North Korea, and photographed several important targets inside North Korea. North Korea's air surveillance units detected and tracked the drone, took countermeasures, and "used special electronic warfare assets to launch an attack." The drone ultimately crashed in the Kaepung District of Kaesong City, North Korea.

The statement added that the South repeatedly carries out provocative acts infringing on North Korean sovereignty. The North strongly condemns these actions, and sternly warns the South to "immediately stop playing with fire and courting self-destruction."
