On the 1st, U.S. President Trump stated that he plans to list the issue of U.S. soybean exports as an important topic when he meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping in four weeks, as American farmers are still suffering from the aftermath of the U.S.-China trade war.
Trump said: “Our country’s soybean farmers are suffering because China is not buying soybeans simply for ‘negotiation’ reasons. I will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in four weeks, and soybeans will be one of the key topics of discussion.”
Last month, Trump revealed that he will hold a meeting with Xi during the APEC summit, which will be held in South Korea at the end of October, and he plans to visit China early next year.
On Wednesday, South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo quoted South Korean officials as saying that Chinese President Xi Jinping will stay in South Korea for two nights from October 31st to November 1st to attend the APEC summit in Gyeongju, during which he will hold bilateral talks with U.S. President Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
On the same day, Trump again emphasized that he would use part of the U.S. tariff revenue to aid farmers, and criticized former President Biden for failing to strictly enforce the earlier U.S.-China trade agreement regarding China’s commitments to increase agricultural product purchases.
