(Bandar Seri Begawan, 2nd) Hosted by Xiamen University and organized by the College of International Chinese Education/Overseas Education College of Xiamen University, the launching ceremony for the Southeast Asian Chinese Department Liaison Mechanism was held in Xiamen from July 1st to July 2nd. Veteran Bruneian cultural education mentor Shen Renxiang was also invited to give online suggestions at the event.
The 'Southeast Asian Chinese Department Liaison Mechanism' aims to construct a regional international Chinese education information hub and build a cross-cultural education dialogue platform, uniting and organizing dedicated Chinese departments and Chinese education leaders in Southeast Asian universities. It seeks to carry out teaching research and academic seminars, explore the laws of international Chinese education, and promote cultural exchanges between China and Southeast Asia through language teaching, injecting new vitality into building a community with a shared future for mankind.
This event gathered many distinguished guests. Attendees took part in the launch ceremony of the liaison mechanism and joined the first working meeting after its establishment, which featured in-depth discussions themed “International Chinese Education under the Perspective of Sustainable Development: Responsibilities and Actions of Southeast Asian Universities.”
The first segment, the 'Expanded Preparatory Committee Meeting for the Southeast Asian Chinese Department Liaison Mechanism,' was hosted by Meng Fanjie, Deputy Director of the Chinese Department at the College of International Chinese Education/Overseas Education College of Xiamen University. Meeting content included: election and voting for the Director of the Liaison Mechanism Committee (Dean Chen Zhiwei) and Rotating Deputy Director (Dean Chen Changxu), speeches by the committee chair, review and approval of liaison mechanism members, and review and approval of (a) Charter of the Southeast Asian Chinese Department Liaison Mechanism, (b) emblem of the Liaison Mechanism.
The second segment, the 'Launching Ceremony of the Southeast Asian Chinese Department Liaison Mechanism,' was hosted by Chen Zhiwei, Dean of Xiamen University College of International Chinese Education/Overseas Education College, including the official unveiling of the liaison mechanism.
Those delivering speeches at the expanded committee meeting included: Zhong Wei, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange at Xiamen University; Secretary General of the Fujian International Chinese Education and Study-in-Fujian Education Alliance; Zhu Feng, Dean of the Overseas Education College at Fujian Normal University; Wang Ruiguo, Dean of Institute of Chinese Education at New Era University College (Malaysia); and Long Changxu, Dean of the School of Chinese at Mae Fah Luang University (Thailand).
The third segment, 'The First Working Meeting of the Southeast Asian Chinese Department Liaison Mechanism,' focused on the theme: “International Chinese Education under the Perspective of Sustainable Development: Responsibilities and Actions of Southeast Asian Universities”, and was hosted by Pan Chaoqing, Vice Dean of Xiamen University College of International Chinese Education/Overseas Education College.
