'Melissa' has now swept across Jamaica, is approaching Cuba, and is expected to bring strong winds and sustained rainfall to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and other locations. Rainfall in Jamaica’s mountainous areas may reach 750 millimeters.

Countries along the hurricane's path have developed emergency response plans. Since the 26th, the Jamaican government has issued mandatory evacuation orders for coastal areas and some districts in the capital, Kingston.
Jamaican Prime Minister Holness said in a media interview on the 27th that the government is taking swift measures, mobilizing emergency resources, and coordinating national agencies to fully respond to the hurricane threat.
