Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said that submarine cables are the lifeline of the global digital economy. Taiwan is willing to work hand in hand with its European democratic partners to enhance the security and resilience of infrastructure, and, through government and civil cooperation, strengthen the integration of technology and democratic freedom to jointly create a new paradigm of democratic partnership.

According to a news release from the Office of the President of Taiwan, when Lai Ching-te received participants of the Formosa Club Annual Meeting and the "Taiwan-Europe Submarine Cable Security Cooperation Forum" on the 28th, he stated that in recent years, both Taiwan and Europe have faced challenges of submarine cables being damaged or interfered with.
