(Kuching, 28th) The PBB Sadong Jaya branch will continue to pay more attention to education in the years 2024-2027, striving to improve the education level in the area.
Datuk Ibrahim Bakri, representative for the area, stated that they will focus on STEM education from primary school, namely science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
“Perhaps we will organize more related educational carnivals like before, such as the STEM Carnival previously held at Merpati Jepang Primary School, which successfully attracted 2,000 to 3,000 attendees.
He said this when interviewed after presiding over the branch's 2024-2027 council meeting today.
He added that the branch will later host STEM 3.0, focusing on raising awareness among students and parents.
He explained that especially after the pandemic, over 200 students do not know how to read, write, and count.
“We also hope to involve the parents, telling them that we want their children to be able to read, write, and calculate.”
He said the plan is to provide special tutoring for students in grades one to five who are not yet proficient in reading and writing for a period of three months to a year.
When asked whether the plan involves secondary students, he explained that secondary students would be focused on through tutoring in certain subjects such as mathematics and science.
He further explained that career talks will be held for students completing Form Five to recommend suitable courses for them, especially those related to the digital economy, hydrogen, renewable energy, and energy transition.
This is to encourage them to focus on these fields, such as engineering, science, and high-tech courses.
