American rap and fashion superstar Kanye West (now known as Ye) held a listening event in Haikou, China last September. Chinese rapper Kid King Jake (real name Wen Bo) attended the event and became overly excited, jumping over two barriers and rushing onto the stage, where he was immediately subdued and escorted away by several security guards. On the 21st, news broke that Kid King Jake died in a car accident in the US at the age of 28.
On October 20 (US time), Kid King Jake and friends were driving separate vehicles and had just entered the highway when the friend in the other car heard the sound of a collision. Unable to stop on the highway, the friend circled back, but by the time he reached the scene, Kid King Jake had already been taken away by ambulance. The friend described: "The spot where he crashed was completely jammed, and by the time I arrived, there was nothing left but wreckage." Jake's mother confirmed the news on WeChat Moments: "My beloved son Wen Bo has passed away. Thank you to friends and family for your ongoing care and support. I hope he finds peace and happiness on the other side."
In the hip-hop community, Kid King Jake was previously criticized for crossing the line, such as rushing the stage, acting out while drunk, and causing disturbances backstage at performances. He had just released a new album in September. Friends recalled that he had planned to take his music seriously and was dedicated to promoting Shanghai hip-hop culture and youth culture development.
