Miri, 17th – Sarawak Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin emphasized that the design of community park facilities should focus on safety and practicality rather than just aesthetics. Especially in public areas, safety and durability are crucial.
After inspecting the Tudan Phase 3 community park with Miri City Council engineers and contractors this morning, Lee Kim Shin pointed out that some of the park's facilities do not meet actual needs. For example, trash bins are easily stolen; he suggested that the rural committee should store the bins in a storage room and take them out only when needed.

He urged the city council to consider practical usage when designing park facilities, especially children’s play facilities like swings, which must have screws and nuts checked regularly to ensure user safety.
Lee Kim Shin stated that park facilities should not only cater to children but also consider adult usage needs. He called for prioritized consideration of anti-theft and vandal-proof features in design and material selection, ensuring facilities are both aesthetically pleasing and durable for long-term use without easy damage.
He particularly emphasized that public facilities need durability and vandal resistance to prevent their functions from being compromised due to theft or vandalism. He encouraged residents to actively participate in maintaining park facilities and to promptly photograph and report any vandalism to the police for legal action.

Lee Kim Shin also disclosed that the construction of the Tudan Phase 3 community park cost 100,000 Ringgit, and any vandalism would cause significant economic losses, hence should be treated seriously, and legal measures should be taken against vandals when necessary.
He urged residents to jointly maintain the park's environment and facilities, making the park a long-term public shared space for local residents to use with peace of mind.
