BAU: An early morning accident along KM2, Jalan Bau/Serikin here yesterday (July 11) claimed the life of a female motorcyclist.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 5.45 am, involved a motorcycle carrying both a rider and a pillion passenger.
District police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the pair were travelling straight from Serikin towards Bau when they lost control and skidded while navigating a bend in the road.
“The accident is believed to occur when the rider and pillion were trying to avoid a trailer that had entered their lane. This had caused the motorcycle to lose control and both individuals fell onto the road.
“While the pillion passenger managed to get up, the rider remained lying on the road and was subsequently hit by a car coming from behind. The type and registration number of the car remain unknown,” he said in a statement.
He said that both individuals were then rushed to Bau Hospital for treatment and the rider succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while the pillion passenger sustained injuries to the knee, elbow and arm.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, members of the public with information related to the accident are urged to come forward or contact the nearest police station.
The public is also advised against speculating about the case and road users are reminded to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition, practise safe driving at all times and remain cautious especially during unpredictable weather conditions.
