Malaysian Man Fined for Illegal Possession of Alcohol, Over 100 Cans Seized at Checkpoint

(Kuala Belait, 31st) A 33-year-old Malaysian man was arrested on December 25, 2025, at the Sungai 7 Ferry Terminal checkpoint for illegally possessing alcoholic beverages, and was charged in court on December 27.

According to a report from the Royal Customs Department of Brunei, at around 8:10 am that morning, enforcement officers discovered a total of 102 cans of various brands of alcoholic drinks hidden in the man's possession during an entry inspection. The case was immediately prosecuted by a customs officer at the checkpoint, and was subsequently sent to the Magistrate's Court on December 27 for trial by Magistrate Nur Ellyana.

The man was charged with violating Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006, namely, possession of alcoholic drinks without lawful permission. Upon conviction, the court fined him BND 5,000; in default of payment, he will be sentenced to 5 months' imprisonment.

In addition, all seized alcoholic beverages were confiscated in accordance with the law and handled by the relevant authorities.
