Data released by the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) on the 11th shows that the cumulative death toll in the current Ebola outbreak in the country has exceeded 2,000 cases.
The data shows that as of the 9th, DR Congo has reported a total of 4,381 confirmed Ebola cases, among which 2,011 have died and 869 have recovered.
The United Nations' Senior Coordinator for Ebola Affairs, Mr. Hannes, said on social media on the 11th that of the over 2,000 deaths, about half occurred in the past 20 days.
He called on all parties involved in responding to the outbreak to take immediate and further action to save lives and curb the continued spread of the virus.
This round of outbreak is the 17th Ebola epidemic in DR Congo since 1976. The World Health Organization said that this outbreak has become the largest recorded Ebola outbreak in DR Congo's history.
