Typhoon 'Chan-hom' made landfall in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, on the evening of the 11th, bringing strong winds and other severe weather to the Kanto region, resulting in injuries, fallen trees, widespread power outages, and disruptions to transportation.
The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that 'Chan-hom' made landfall in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture at around 8:00 p.m. local time on the 11th. This is the first time since Japan began related statistics in 1951 that a typhoon has made landfall in Ibaraki Prefecture.
Tokyo Electric Power Company reported that approximately 21,200 households in the Kanto region experienced power outages.
Due to the strong winds, many areas reported fallen trees. Ibaraki Police said the typhoon has caused injuries to three people in the prefecture.
Japan's two major airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines, had a total of 64 planned flight cancellations on the day, affecting an estimated 12,000 travelers. Some railway lines also suspended operations due to power outages and fallen trees.
