On the 16th, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, met in Hanoi with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other Chinese officials, stating that as the current international situation is complex and volatile, with increasing uncertainties and unpredictable factors, China and Vietnam should strengthen unity and cooperation to safeguard the legitimate interests of both countries.

From the 15th to the 17th, Wang Yi, together with Chinese Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and Minister of National Defense Dong Jun, visited Vietnam to attend the first ministerial-level meeting of the China-Vietnam “3+3” Strategic Dialogue Mechanism on diplomacy, defense, and public security. According to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Trong met with Wang Yi and his delegation on the 16th.

Trong stated that the “3+3” mechanism is a joint initiative of the leaders of the two parties, reflects a high level of political mutual trust, and demonstrates that cooperation in key areas has become an important pillar of bilateral relations. This will strongly promote the in-depth and substantial building of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future.

Trong further pointed out that given the current complex and ever-changing international situation, with increasing uncertainties and unpredictable factors, China and Vietnam should strengthen unity and cooperation to safeguard the legitimate interests of both countries.

Trong said, “Vietnam has always taken relations with China as its top priority and strategic choice in foreign policy, and will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy.” He looks forward to enhancing political mutual trust with China, strengthening strategic alignment, deepening practical cooperation, promoting local people-to-people exchanges, and closely coordinating and cooperating multilaterally, to jointly safeguard international and regional stability and development.

Wang Yi stated that the inaugural ministerial-level meeting of the “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism conducted an in-depth exchange of views around the theme of “coordinating development and security, staying on the socialist path, and working together to tackle common challenges,” and reached extensive consensus. It sent an important message to the outside world that the two great socialist countries, China and Vietnam, are joining hands to safeguard the security of their political systems and jointly seek national development and rejuvenation.

Wang Yi said that the “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism is the world's first strategic communication platform of its kind between China and Vietnam, representing a new level of strategic mutual trust and cooperation, and marking new progress in building the strategically significant China-Vietnam community with a shared future.

Wang Yi noted that this year marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026 to 2030), and is also the first year of implementation of the resolutions of the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. China is willing to continue deepening its comprehensive strategic cooperation with Vietnam, unite and collaborate to address common challenges, deepen political mutual trust, advance mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate the foundation of friendship, uphold fairness and justice, accelerate the building of a strategically significant China-Vietnam community with a shared future, and jointly embark on a new journey towards modernization.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Xiaohong and Dong Jun respectively introduced the cooperation between the Chinese and Vietnamese public security and defense departments. During the visit, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also met with Wang Yi and his delegation.
