Russia's Pacific Fleet said on social media on the 20th that a mixed strike unit of the Pacific Fleet conducted missile launch drills against simulated enemy ships in the waters near the southern Kuril Islands (referred to by Japan as the Northern Territories), and all targets were successfully hit.
In its post, the Russian Pacific Fleet said that in the waters near the southern Kuril Islands, the missile cruiser 'Varyag' fired P-1000 'Vulkan' anti-ship missiles, the nuclear-powered submarine 'Omsk' launched 'Granit' cruise missiles, and the 'Bastion' coastal defense missile system fired 'Oniks' anti-ship missiles. The training strike targets were more than 300 kilometers from the launch site.
In any case, the Russian Pacific Fleet did not mention the timing of the exercise.
Regarding the fact that the Russian Pacific Fleet conducted missile launch drills near the disputed islands between Japan and Russia, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, while visiting Oman on the 20th, told the media: 'Strengthening the military presence on the Northern Territories is contrary to Japan's position and is unacceptable.'
