The people of Singapore have given a clear and strong mandate for the People's Action Party to govern in this election, allowing the government to more effectively advance foreign policy and help the nation secure a place in an ever-changing international environment.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated: “The international community and investors have noticed the election results, seeing a nation united in its steadfast support for the leadership, confident in this stable and capable government’s ability to secure advantages for Singapore in a world of shifting dynamics.”
After taking the oath of office, Prime Minister Wong delivered speeches in Malay, Chinese, and English. In his English address, he emphasized the work that the government must prioritize, with the most crucial being to stabilize the country's footing.
He pointed out that Singaporeans have elected a strong and stable government, while opposition MPs were re-elected in their constituencies, reflecting the collective will of the people.
Prime Minister Wong emphasized that the world cannot question the determination of the Singaporean people or the legitimacy of their elected government, which is a clear advantage in advancing our foreign policy.
Having taken over the national leadership in May last year, Prime Minister Wong led the People's Action Party as party leader for the first time in this election, winning 87 out of 97 seats, with the national vote share rising from 61.24% in the previous election to 65.57%.
Besides strengthening diplomacy, Prime Minister Wong stated that the government will also lead the country in overcoming economic challenges, continue to promote the 'Forward Singapore' movement, renew and strengthen social contracts, address future challenges like climate change, and listen more to the people's voices in policy-making.
