U.S. President Trump said he will meet Russian President Putin in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in about "two weeks."
To promote an end to Russia's war in Ukraine, Trump had held talks with Putin in Alaska, USA, in August.
On the 16th, Trump posted on social media that he had a long conversation with Russian President Putin that day, mainly discussing ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict and subsequent U.S.-Russia trade and other issues. The two sides will hold a face-to-face meeting in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
Trump wrote that his call with Putin was "productive" and "made great progress." Both sides agreed to hold a high-level U.S.-Russia meeting next week, with the U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Rubio, while the meeting place is yet to be determined. After the high-level talks, he and Putin will meet in Budapest to discuss how to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trump did not mention the date of the U.S.-Russia leaders’ meeting.
The Kremlin confirmed the plan, and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov will speak with Rubio in the coming days to prepare for a new round of summits between Putin and Trump.
