On the 28th, the Danish government announced that in order to ensure the security of upcoming informal meetings of EU leaders and European Political Community leaders scheduled for early October in Copenhagen, Denmark has decided to ban all civilian drone flights nationwide from September 29 to October 3.
According to this measure, only drone flights involving major public emergency missions may be granted exemptions. Regular commercial or recreational flights, such as private aerial photography, will not be permitted. Violators may be fined or face imprisonment for up to two years.
Denmark will hold the rotating presidency of the EU from July to December 2025. The informal meeting of EU leaders and the European Political Community leaders’ meeting will take place in Copenhagen on October 1 and October 2, respectively.
Since late September, multiple drones have been spotted over several airports and military facilities in Denmark. On the evening of the 22nd, Copenhagen Kastrup International Airport suspended all take-offs and landings for about four hours after multiple unidentified drones were detected. From the night of the 24th to the early morning of the 25th, drones were observed over three airports, one air force base, and one military facility, with Aalborg airport's airspace closed for several hours at one point. On the evening of the 26th, Danish military once again detected drone activity over Karup Air Base on the Jutland Peninsula.
