Mainland and Taiwan Enterprises Sign Cooperation Agreements – Chang Rong-gong: No Force Can Stop Spontaneous Mutual Benefit

After the “Xi-Zheng Meeting,” Mainland China released “Ten Policies to Promote Cross-Strait Exchange and Cooperation,” and Mainland and Taiwan enterprises formally connected and signed agreements during the Straits Forum. Kuomintang (KMT) Vice Chairman Chang Rong-gong, who attended the forum on the mainland, said that as long as cross-strait grassroots exchanges and cooperation are beneficial, there is no force that can stop such spontaneous acts of mutual benefit.

After the meeting between KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen and CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping, Mainland China announced ten Taiwan-beneficial measures on April 12, covering areas such as direct cross-strait flights, the production and sale of Taiwan’s agricultural and fishery products, small and medium enterprises going to the mainland, film and television exchanges, and the resumption of individual tourists from Shanghai and Fujian to Taiwan as a pilot.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the matching and signing conference for the relevant measures was held in Xiamen, Fujian on Saturday (June 13). Mainland enterprises signed agreements with enterprises and business associations from various regions in Taiwan to purchase characteristic agricultural and fishery products from places like Taitung, Yunlin, Nantou, such as pineapple sugar apples, pomelo, and tea.

Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Song Tao said in his speech at the signing ceremony that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is irresistible, and Taiwan’s future and destiny are tied to the mainland’s development and national unity and strength. Only by adhering to the “1992 Consensus,” opposing “Taiwan independence,” and recognizing that both sides of the strait belong to one China, can cross-strait relations develop peacefully, can there be peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and can the interests and well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait be guaranteed.

The 18th Straits Forum Conference was held in Xiamen on Saturday, and the signing ceremony took place on the same evening.

According to Taiwan’s Taibo, Chang Rong-gong stated in his speech at the conference that the reason Taiwan’s farmers and fishermen sell their products to the mainland is simply to make a living. If they continue to be smeared and suppressed, that is absolutely “intolerable by moral standards.”

Chang Rong-gong said that since the Straits Forum began, it has become customary for county and city leaders from Taiwan to lead delegations to participate. The forum is a very good platform and opportunity that benefits peoples on both sides and has absolutely no downside.

Regarding the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan banning county and city leaders from participating in the Straits Forum for the first time, Chang Rong-gong frankly expressed regret, but emphasized that “history cannot go backward.”

Chang Rong-gong also said that cross-strait agricultural and fishery product exchanges are an important channel to promote mutual understanding between people on both sides, and are the most practical way to enhance the well-being of Taiwan’s grassroots population. The signing ceremony marks a new stage for Taiwan’s agricultural products to enter the mainland market.
