(Miri, 7th) Regarding the explosion incident of the underground natural gas pipeline on April 2 in Putrajaya, Selangor, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that incidents like this should be given high attention, and all constructions involving underground facilities must strictly adhere to operational procedures to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
During a media interview this morning after inspecting and handing over the covered walkway project at Miri Primary School, he pointed out that, based on understanding, the accident involved three natural gas pipelines, one of which ruptured, leading to gas leakage and causing an explosion, resulting in significant losses.
“Whether it is natural gas pipes, water pipes, cables, or telephone lines, any construction must apply to the relevant units in advance and be carried out according to standard operating procedures. One cannot be careless; once an accident occurs, the consequences are unimaginable.”
Lee emphasized that the relevant units should immediately conduct a comprehensive review of the natural gas pipeline network throughout the region and explore strengthening safety mechanisms to prevent similar accidents from happening again, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
