Continuous heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding in Hat Yai! Many areas in Hat Yai have flooded roads, leaving numerous locals and tourists trapped in hotels and homes.
According to netizens sharing in the Facebook group “Thai Hat Yai and Betong Food Sharing Group”, several days of torrential rain have caused severe floods in many parts of Hat Yai. Among them, the area around Lee Garden, a favorite shopping district among Malaysians, has been submerged.

Netizens also shared that in some areas, water levels have already submerged the ground floor, forcing residents to take shelter on the second floor while awaiting rescue. Some Malaysian netizens reported that due to the floods, government authorities have started cutting power, so there is currently no electricity supply in the city center of Hat Yai. As a result, they are trapped in their hotel rooms, their phones are running out of battery, and there is no food.
According to the fifth announcement issued by the Hat Yai Municipal Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center at 8 a.m. on Saturday (22nd), rainfall in Hat Yai has reached 516mm since the 19th, surpassing the record of the 1998 flood (493mm) and more than half of the 2010 heavy rainfall (537mm), causing low-lying areas in the city to be gradually submerged.

The Hat Yai city government has also announced that the entire city is under “red alert” status and has called on all residents living in low-lying or riverside areas to quickly move to safe locations or prepare to evacuate at any moment.
On the other hand, due to severe flooding in many areas of Hat Yai, the power authority announced at 8 a.m. today the implementation of district-based power outages to prevent electrical accidents. According to the “Flood Power Outage Notice (First Edition)” released by the Hat Yai District Electric Authority, as water levels have risen rapidly in several areas and already pose an electrical safety risk, authorities must immediately cut off the electricity supply in some regions.
