Increased Uncertainty in Iran-US Talks Leads to Sharp Rise in International Oil Prices

Due to the bleak outlook ahead of the Iran-US talks being held at Bürgenstock, Switzerland, international crude oil futures prices rose significantly as trading began for the new week on the 21st.

According to a Xinhua report, as of 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time on the 21st (6:30 a.m. Malaysian time on the 22nd), the price for August delivery of light crude futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange had risen as high as $78.14 per barrel, an increase of 3.02%. August delivery prices for Brent crude oil futures in London rose as high as $82.30 per barrel, an increase of 2.15%.

On the 21st, the Iranian delegation participating in the Iran-US negotiations at Bürgenstock, Switzerland suddenly suspended the talks in protest against US President Trump’s threatening remarks towards Iran made that same day.
