3 Lorry Chain Collision on North-South Expressway Leaves 2 Dead and 10km Traffic Jam

(Johor, 13th) A chain collision involving three lorries occurred on the North-South Expressway, resulting in two people sustaining severe injuries and passing away. The accident also caused a severe traffic jam of up to 10 kilometers in the southbound direction.
This accident happened on Thursday (12th) around 8:30 am at the 81.9 km mark of the North-South Expressway. The deceased were the driver of a lorry transporting electrical appliances, R. Pubanan (45 years old), and the co-driver, R. Sivasandinan (35 years old), who both tragically died at the scene.
According to Batu Pahat District Police Chief Assistant Director Shahrul Annuar, the lorry that the deceased were in crashed into the rear of a timber-carrying lorry.
He stated that the impacted lorry lost control and collided with another oil tanker lorry.
The 37-year-old driver of the timber-carrying lorry suffered minor injuries to his leg and chest and was later sent to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital for treatment. The other 42-year-old lorry driver was unharmed.
The police are currently investigating under Section 41(1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act (causing death by negligent driving), and witnesses are urged to come forward to assist with the investigation by approaching the nearest police station.
