(Miri, 26th) Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution, in a written response to Miri MP Chiew Choon Man's inquiry in Parliament, stated that the ministry, through the Royal Malaysia Police, attaches great importance to issues related to cybercrime, as the losses faced by the public are increasing daily.
He said that to prevent the public from continuing to fall victim, the government is actively taking various measures from different angles, including amending existing laws and enhancing current laws to combat online fraud. The government has already implemented amendments to Section 574 of the Penal Code and Section 593 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
“Section 574 involves the addition of supplementary clauses, including Sections 424A, 424B, 424C, and 424D, related to mule account crimes involving the possession, control, and use of ATM cards, credit cards, e-wallets, and any other payment instruments.”
He pointed out that the newly amended Section 593 Section 116D of the Criminal Procedure Code empowers police officers with a rank not lower than sergeant to arrest and freeze accounts to prevent financial transactions.
